Alpha-Fox announces that the Alteran Stargate Network has been moved under Ash Qin's care, including hosting. Significant backend system reworks are underway and are expected to take several years to complete.
Alpha-Fox identified an issue with SL's HTTP proxy engine that was stripping query data from posts, causing region information for stargates to be lost. This led to the network mistakenly assuming gates had moved, triggering unnecessary resets. A server change has now been made to update gates more gracefully, preventing further "purge" effects from corrupted data. While users must re-setup gate data, this should be the last unexpected purge.
Alpha-Fox has made a minor update to the dialing string handler, improving search functionality to prioritize full word matches. This change will make it easier to match terms like "/dial gate" to "My Gate" before others like "Alteran Stargate." Additionally, the network hub at Eternal Calm is undergoing renovation, and users will now arrive at a new orbital station. A special feature on the gate replaces the "SUBNOVA" dial button with a random button to prevent confusion for unfamiliar users.
Alpha-Fox is working on fixing issues caused by a PHP update last year. The goal is to restore the ability to post on the forum without the body of the post being removed, ensuring functionality is fully restored.
The ASN has now been fully migrated to the new hardware, including the data server, database server, and webserver, all funded by generous donations from ASN users. The website is noticeably faster, and the Stargates should also be more responsive. This upgrade marks a significant improvement in the network's performance. Cheers!
