While we don't normally create fan posts, we simply couldn't resist jumping in on this one. We have some truly exciting Stargate news that we'd like to share with everyone!

From this point onward, we'll be stepping away from our usual, more casual fun tone and focusing on a clear, fact-driven overview of what's currently known about the new Stargate series. We'll be drawing on announcements and sources, and wherever possible we'll include links or references so you can check the information for yourself. Our goal is to make sure that everything we share here is as accurate, up to date, and transparent as possible.

Summary

On November 19, 2025, Amazon MGM Studios officially announced they will bring a new live-action "Stargate" TV series for Prime Video ℹ️, available globally in over 240 countries and territories, marking the franchise's return after more than 14 years since "Stargate Universe" ended on May 9, 2011 ℹ️.

The series is not a reboot but a brand new chapter in the existing universe ℹ️, honouring the canon from the 1994 film, "SG-1", "Atlantis", "Universe", and "Origins" (over 17 seasons and 350+ hours) , designed as a jumping-on point for new viewers while connecting deeply for longtime fans.

Currently in pre-production with Martin Gero having completed the pilot script and series overview; next steps include assembling a writers' room, scripting, casting, and crew hiring ℹ️, with no confirmed filming location, start date, episode count, runtime, or release window, and any potential premiere timeframe discussed by fans remaining speculative rather than official.

Involved parties

There have been no announcements on casting, returning characters, or arcs (Wraith, Aschen); team notes fan interest in "familiar faces" and cameos, with fan hopes for legacy actors like David Hewlett or Joe Flanigan ℹ️.

Martin Gero, a franchise veteran who contributed to "SG-1", "Atlantis", and "Universe" (episodes like "The Storm", "The Eye", "Duet", "First Strike", "Be All My Sins Remember'd"), is the creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner, having developed the project for over a year and noting it's "written into his DNA" ℹ️.

Brad Wright (co-creator of "SG-1", "Atlantis", "Universe") and Joseph Mallozzi (writer/executive producer on the TV series) are returning as consulting producers, with Mallozzi having read the pilot and praising how it captures the franchise's essence. Original film co-creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, plus Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures, are executive producers. Nick Pepper of Amazon MGM Studios calls it a "visionary new chapter" ℹ️.

Earlier in the year, on January 23, 2025, Wright joked that "Five hundred billion dollars could make, oh, three to four thousand seasons of a new Stargate television series" ℹ️. When commenting on prominent spending figures, playfully tying them back to the idea of funding more Stargate. His formal involvement as a consulting producer on the new series is confirmed primarily through official press releases rather than extended commentary threads on X.

Emmerich and Devlin are credited as executive producers in the new series announcements. Both ℹ️ have recently acknowledged the franchise and its 30th anniversary in public posts and interviews, with Devlin in particular sharing photos and memories from the original film's production during the 2024 anniversary ℹ️.

As of now, there have been few widely-noticed public social media posts specifically about the new series from other key producers such as Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Nick Pepper, or Safehouse Pictures, and there has been no prominent early commentary about the new show from other behind-the-scenes alumni like Robert C. Cooper, Paul Mullie, or Martin Wood.

So far there has been limited visible social media reaction specifically about the new series from legacy cast members such as Christopher Judge, David Hewlett, and others; many classic cast members either have low-key or no significant public presence, with fan sites and community hubs often carrying more of the early reaction than the actors' own feeds.

Show details

Specific plot details are undisclosed. However, official materials and comments from the creative team emphasise that the new series will honour the classic "Stargate" blend of military sci-fi, exploration, action, rich mythology (including elements like ancient gods reinterpreted as aliens), science, heart, humour, strong characters, optimism, and fun, with Stargate wormholes as the core narrative device and an expectation of modern, high-end visual effects - though the exact storyline, enemies, and time period have not yet been revealed ℹ️.

Announcement materials and a teaser-style video ℹ️ thank fans for their support through rewatches and conventions; a key tagline is: "Stargate fans, a new extraordinary journey is about to begin". They promise future updates such as concept art and behind-the-scenes material, and Gero and Mallozzi both express gratitude to longtime fans, Mallozzi in particular positioning his blog as an ongoing hub for news and commentary on the new series.

Joseph Mallozzi's post on Reddit

Joseph Mallozzi reiterated information included on his blog posts with slight differences on Reddit ℹ️ and has lead to some fan speculations:

Chevron Eight is locked as a hint for another galaxy

Multiple users speculate that Mallozzi's sign-off "Chevron Eight is locked!" in his blog and Reddit post implies the new series is set in another galaxy, as 8 chevrons typically indicate intergalactic travel (to Pegasus in Atlantis).

Pegasus galaxy setting (Atlantis connection)

Commenters theorise the series could return to the Pegasus Galaxy to resolve unresolved threats like the Wraith, or feature an Atlantis-esque expedition with new enemies, worlds, and mythology, given the 8-chevron reference.

Ida galaxy or Asgard legacy

Speculation includes exploring the Ida Galaxy (home of the Asgard), potentially searching for surviving Asgard or their legacy, with jokes like "Stargate 3: The Search for Thor" or reviving the Asgard who were thought extinct.

New galaxy or expedition-style premise

Users suggest an entirely new galaxy or an expedition similar to Atlantis/Universe, introducing fresh mythology and avoiding overload from prior lore, possibly with a new significant dire threat to engage new viewers.

Milky Way or Earth-centric focus

Some counter-theories prefer an Earth-centric or Milky Way setting to maintain secrecy of the Stargate program, avoiding public disclosure implications, with concerns about how to handle Tau'ri's advanced power without retcons.

Connection to Ancients or unresolved arcs

Theories propose focusing on Ancients, SGU elements (Destiny's fate), or other loose ends, with the SGC at full power using advanced ships and possibly relocating Atlantis.

Meeting the Furlings

Speculation about finally introducing the Furlings, one of the Four Great Races, as a new element in the mythology.

Mallozzi's clarification and teases

Joseph Mallozzi directly responds in comments, denying that "Chevron Eight is locked" is a hint for another galaxy, stating it was an arbitrary choice between 7 or 8; however, he teases "All will be revealed. Eventually" regarding ties to previous shows, and promises ongoing updates without disclosing specifics.

Tone and style Speculations

Undisclosed theories include the show adopting an Atlantis-like tone (optimistic team-based sci-fi) rather than SGU's darker style, with episodic "planet-of-the-week" adventures, wacky episodes (puppets, animations), and minimal Earth politics to keep it fun and escapist.
