Subnova Network Downtime Coming Soon [COMPLETED 20080523.151204]

Posted by Lex Mars on 04 April 2008, 3:17:30 pm

The entire Subnova network will be down pending an IP Address changeover for all our servers hosted at Subnova Core.

This will affect all Subnova hosted websites, email, the IM network, and all but one of the IRC Network servers.

We are changing IPs due to finally upgrading our upstream connection to fiber-optic cable!
We're going to have significantly more upstream bandwidth available. Starting off, we're going to have 3Mbps/3Mbps. Depending on revenues from hosting sources, we can upgrade to 8Mbps/8Mbps.

Once I have a firm date as to the changeover, I'll post again.
Right now, they're running the backbone cable past Subnova Core. My estimated time to installation is about 2 to 3 weeks from now.

UPDATE 20080429.211644
Right now, it's looking like sometime next week, we'll be switching over to the fiber network.

Uberwoot.

UPDATE 20080512.194430
Fiber router installed. Splicer is expected in the next day or two.
Looking like the switchover will be Friday.

Hot diggity.

UPDATE 20080516.165738
Provision this...

We're waiting on provisioning... we have no IP addresses... and we can't hook in yet.

Looks like this weekend will be boring and remain on DSL. Meh.

UPDATE 20080521.201450
WE HAS IPs!!!

Thursday is going to be "OMFG WHAT HAPPEN?@!" day. When I move everything to fiber and none of the DNS matches up... and everything seems to not exist anymore... for about 24 to 48 hours. However, the servers will be busy busy busy... and everything but subnova.com services will be running on other domains.

This weekend, Subnova should return from the ethernet... and will be screaming along on our new optical 3Mbps (BOTH WAYS!) line.

w00tage to teh maxxx.

UPDATE 20080523.151204
IT LIVES!!!

We're done. Fiber is live.
Super props go to Billy for fixing the issue. Thanks a ton, man.

Let the celebrations begin.
